The gaming hardware confiscated by the Ukrainian police was being used to create in-game currency and not for farming cryptocurrency.
Last week , Ukraine police seized 3800 PlayStation consoles . Based on the initial reports, it was said to be used for crypto mining .
According to further investigation , it turned out that they were being used to generate content packs and coins for FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), a game mode in the popular FIFA football game title. Ukraine’s Secret Service has yet to confirm or deny its findings.
However, using gaming hardware to mine cryptocurrencies is not unheard of . Especially the Increasing demand for GPUs, global semiconductor shortage, makes the gamers unable to secure next-generation graphics cards for their hardware.
